# The Scribble Thing FAQ

The Scribble Thing by Boring Stuff Club turns line-art images into scribe animation videos.

## What is The Scribble Thing?

The Scribble Thing turns a still line-art illustration into an MP4 scribe animation that reveals the drawing stroke by stroke.

## What artwork works best?

Clean PNG or JPEG line art on a simple background works best. The current upload limit is 10 MB and the maximum image dimensions are 4096 by 4096 pixels.

## Can I control the drawing order?

Yes. Add plain-language instructions such as 'draw the person first, then the bridge, and write the labels last.' The internal order of small strokes within an object may still vary.

## What happens if I leave the drawing order blank?

The service asks its vision model to choose a natural component-by-component drawing order automatically.

## How long does generation take?

Most animations are ready in about two minutes, although complex artwork, model-provider delays, or a busy queue can take longer.

## Can the animation include a hand and pen?

Yes. You can turn the drawing hand on or off before generation. When enabled, the hand and pen follow the line currently being revealed.

## Is The Scribble Thing free?

Generating and downloading a watermarked preview is free. A single-use $5 unlock code removes the watermark from one animation.

## How does the clean-video unlock work?

Buy one unlock through the linked Buy Me a Coffee page. The Boring Stuff Clerk emails a single-use code that remains valid for 30 days. Enter it on the animation's private session page.

## Can I use a generated video commercially?

Yes. Subject to the Terms of Use and applicable law, generated videos may be used in personal or commercial projects. You remain responsible for the rights to your source artwork and for reviewing the output.

## How long are my files kept?

Uploaded artwork, instructions, intermediate files, and generated videos are kept for no more than 24 hours. You can delete the session sooner from its private page.

## Do I need an account?

No. Each animation has a private session link. Anyone with that link may be able to access the session, so share it only with intended recipients.

## Can an AI agent create an animation for me?

Yes. The versioned Agent API can upload artwork, supply optional drawing-order instructions, poll generation status, and download the preview. The public API guide and OpenAPI specification describe the workflow.

## How does an agent let me review or unlock the result?

The API returns a private manage_url. An agent can give that URL to you so you can review the video and buy or enter an unlock code in the browser without giving payment details to the agent.

## What happens if generation fails?

The private session page and Agent API status response report a safe, user-facing error. You can retry with a new session or contact Boring Stuff Club if the problem continues.

## How do I delete an animation session?

Use 'Delete my session' on the private session page, or call the Agent API delete endpoint with that animation's bearer capability. Session content and generated files are removed immediately.
